About

Over 20 years ago, Samir Joseph Metlej decided that he wanted to share his passion for fresh, delicious food with his family and friends. So in 1996 he opened a small shop at the Armdale Rotary, in Halifax, and Juicy Fruit Market began.

Juicy Fruit Market began as a family business, providing the neighborhood with fresh fruit and vegetables. As the business grew, Samir decided to add a wholesale…which grew and grew, until the small shop would no longer work. It was at this point that Juicy Fruit Market moved to its location on Barrington Street.

When Juicy Fruit Market moved to Barrington Street, Samir and his family decided to focus solely on the wholesale side of the business, developing relationships with local restaurants, resorts and hotels. As the business continued to grow, the family involvement also expanded to include Samir’s wife Violet (Financial), and son John (Operations Manager). With John’s help, it wasn’t long before the business outgrew its home and needed yet another new one. So it was that Samir and John built the new state of the art facility at 123 Chain Lake Drive.”
